Inaugural Swinburne Annual Barak/Wonga Oration

Swinburne University of Technology warmly invites you to attend the Inaugural Swinburne Annual Barak/Wonga Oration. The Oration, to be presented by Ms Belinda Duarte, is named in honour of two significant Aboriginal leaders, William Barak and Simon Wonga. It is a key element of Swinburne’s Reconciliation Action Plan. The Oration is designed to advance understandings in the wider community on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.
Fifty Year anniversary of the Wave Hill Walk-off
This week marks the 50th anniversary of the 'Wave Hill walk off', a defining moment in the struggle for Aboriginal land rights. In August 1966, 200 Aboriginal workers walked off the Wave Hill cattle station in the Northern Territory, protesting against poor working conditions and unpaid wages.
Local community celebrations were held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
