Reconciliation Victoria Cultural Council Meeting

Friday 10 March 2023

Rec Vic Cultural Council of First Peoples had its first meeting of 2023 last month on beautiful Wurundjeri Country. The Cultural Council, Rec Vic CEO, Board members, staff and guests from Merri-bek Council and local surrounding schools gathered at the Ballerrt Moorroop (Strong Spirit) site in Glenroy.

Ballerrt Morroop is the site of a former Koorie Open Door Education (KODE) School that has been under development by Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Corporation and Merri-bek Council. It was a special location for the Council to begin its Planning Day for 2023.

Cultural Council Senior Elder Uncle Jim Berg attended along with Aunty Vicki Clark, Uncle Tony McCartney and Board member Emily Poelina-Hunter and Co-Chair Andrew Gunstone. We looked ahead to a busy 2023 with NRW approaching and the upcoming referendum and the Council provided guidance on Rec Vic activities and direction.

Aunty Vicki Clark, a longtime supporter of Rec Vic, was gifted a beautiful Mallee Root bowl, carved by Wiradjuri artist Graham Gilbert, in recognition and gratitude of her many years of support and guidance to Reconciliation Victoria.
