Ya Yapaneyepuk Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Forum

Ya Yapaneyepuk Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Forum

Reconciliation Victoria attended Ya Yapaneyepuk Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Forum on 5 - 6 April 2022.

Hosted by Njernda Aboriginal Corporation and the Loddon Mallee Sector Development Team, the forum was held on Yorta Yorta Country with an exceptional line up of speakers and performers including Robynne Nelson Managing Director of Mulana Kaalinya, musician and storyteller Kutcha Edwards, community activist Aaron Perkins Kemp Berger, and Aunty Pam Pederson.

Reconciliation Victoria CEO, Nicole Findlay, presented on Building Meaningful Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) and our team engaged extensively with services that attended from across Victoria.

The forum included an amazing on-country cultural tour courtesy of Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation, where Uncle Colin Walker and Uncle Dr Wayne Atkinson shared stories of the Yorta Yorta wetlands and the ongoing struggles of protecting ancient scar trees, forest eco-systems, and the mighty Murray River.

Thank you to Aunty Vicki Walker and all at the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation for inviting Reconciliation Victoria to be part of their wonderful event led by First Peoples and filled with truth-telling, cultural learning, and story sharing.

We hope to be part of many more Ya Yapaneyepuk Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Forums in the future.

We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters of Victoria.
