An Aboriginal Gathering Place is a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal people to gather, meet and to establish a connection to each other and local culture. This space provides an opportunity for the development of community led and driven cultural programs which will enhance cultural identity, social inclusion and improved health and wellbeing.
Willum Warrain, in local Boon Wurrung language means ‘Hut by the sea’. It is a gathering place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders come together to explore their goals, ideas and identity.
The Gathering Place was established in 2014 in Hastings with support from Mornington Peninsula Shire and funding from the Closing the Gap program. Willum Warrain is a whole-of-organisation charity that relies on a combination of volunteers, philanthropic funding and government support to keep its doors open.
Barrbunin Beek means ‘happy place’ in Woiwurrung language.
It's a gathering place in West Heidelberg for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to connect with Elders and each other, practice and celebrate culture and build community wellbeing.
It was established more than 10 year ago, delivers a range of programs and activities and promotes access to essential services for the local Aboriginal Community.
